Getting Ready For That Big Date.
No matter how much experience you have in the dating
scene, you can never receive too much dating advice.
Dating can be a stressful experience if you don't have the
tools to properly deal with it. Here are some ideas that
will help you prepare for the dating ritual:
1. Be prepared before diving in. If you're serious about
dating and getting yourself out there, it's important to
know what you're looking for and to be committed to the
dating process. If your heart's not in it, dating won't
work out. Also, don't get discouraged by let downs, as
this comes with the territory.
2. Boost your looks and your confidence by joining a gym,
getting fit and eating healthy. Cut your hair and get it
styled. This may not get you a date but it will heighten
your morale.
3. Go clothes shopping. Once in a while a fresh look can
do the trick. Wear your new outfit on a night out.
4. Be honest with yourself about what you're hoping for
from the dating game. It's vital to know if you wanted to
be standing at the alter two years from now or whether
you're happy to simply have a nice time. If it's the latter
then it's a good idea to let your dating partner know
early on, or you'll might find yourself becoming a
heartbreaker, which is not pleasant.
5. You have to get out. Steel yourself and go to those
nights out and functions. Remember though that you won't
find a date at every kind of function, so choose wisely.
6. Be honest about what you expect. If you won't settle
for anything less than Brad Pitt or Kate Moss, then ask
yourself if you're in with a shot. If you're not realistic
you're going to suffer from a lot of disappointments.
7. Be in the right place at the right time. Put yourself
in places and situations where you are more likely to meet
someone. Join clubs, societies, drama groups - or
anything. You won't meet anyone sitting in front of the
television set.
8. Temporarily stop dating if you need to take a break.
Sometimes dating can be tiring, especially if you've
suffered a few mishaps. Use your off time to regenerate -
but get back into it as soon as possible.
9. Relax and enjoy. Dating shouldn't be the most stress
filled part of your life. Think of it as a social event
where you can at very least enjoy a nice chat with
interesting people. Even if it leads only to friendship,
new people can bring a whole new perspective to your life.
10. Remember the mystery. Play this card carefully or
you'll appear aloof or snotty, but human beings love a
little intrigue. Sometimes taking it slow can be more
exciting and rewarding than the headlong rush towards
intimacy. Let them get to know you a piece at a time.
11. Join a free Internet dating program. Post your profile
and a photo. Even if you never find a date online,
chatting can be a great way to practice your dating skills
in a virtual environment without fear of complete failure.
In the end, making the dating experience a positive one is
up to you - if you put in the effort you'll achieve
results.
